---------------------------
Once upon a time, at the edge of a distant galaxy, there spun a beautiful, peaceful planet.
It was called Cerinia, after its dominant race: An advanced population of magic-users, the Cerinians.
Among the most powerful of the Cerinians was the great wizard Randorn, chief of the eastern hemisphere. As bookkeeper of his people, he was well-versed in all forms of magic; good and bad alike. Though he struck an impressive, terrifying figure, at the heart he was gentle, concerned only with keeping the peace.
He fathered two sons.
Unfortunately, as time went on, a small group of Cerinians became dissatisfied with Randorn's politics. They thought he was a fool for keeping the power of their people hidden away in stones and books, protected from the grasping of unsavory hands. So, as tends to happen in such cases, they rebelled against him.
His sons, both strong warriors trained to defend, fought valiantly against the mutiny... and won.
But in the process, the first-born was mortally injured.
Grief-stricken by his eldest son's death, the great wizard exiled himself, disappearing into the wilderness... along with his secrets. He traveled for many long years, seeking relief from the deep, aching pain of his loss.
In the midst of this, he stumbled upon a young orphan girl.
Her name was Krystal.
In the glory of her youth, he saw the promise of his lost son. She was a beautiful child, utterly kind and generous, inspiring him to feel tender for the first time in years. What happened to her parents? How had she come to be so alone? He couldn't bear to leave her lost in the wilderness. And as she trailed along behind him in his long, weary travels, he began to teach her his secrets.
And, slowly, two lonely, wounded hearts began to heal.
